This is a study I did of Gustave Caillebotte's painting "Fruit Displayed in Stand." It's been months since I painted and I was feeling like I was starting from scratch all over again. I decided to do a study and just work on technique and get the feel of painting again.
The baskets of winter squash at the Hadley Sugar Shack have inspired me to try out a variety of squash recipes. A butternut and acorn squash soup with thyme and sage served with homemade croutons has been a big hit.
The other day, I noticed that it smelled like pumpkins when I went outside. I love New England in the autumn! I bought three little pumpkins from the Hadley Sugar Shack which I'm planning on using in a pumpkin soup.
I've had these apples and pears set up in a still life for a couple of days as I've been working on a small series of paintings. They are slowly disappearing (yummy!), so I don't have much time to finish up.
We (the Cold Spring Gallery Co-op) will have a tent at the Garlic Festival in Orange, MA in September. Last year's garlic festival introduced me to cold-weather garlic which I just love.
In keeping with the Valentine season, here's my first "heart" series to be shown in the "Hearts & Flowers" show which opens Saturday, 2/9 (see previous postcard posting for details).
This is a fun little piece that I painted at a friend's house. She had the sweetest little handmade ceramic colander that we filled with apples for this still life.
I painted this as my "impressionist spacial mix" assignment for a color theory class. I think I was successful in capturing the play of light in this piece and often refer to it when I need a reminder of how many colors can be used to describe a surface or object.
