Bubble I, Bubble II & Bubble III

The Bubble Triptych

18"x 24" Acrylic on canvas

This is my triptych "The Bubble" depicting my son, Theo, in a pre-ballet class at Amherst Ballet.  Ms. Kelly taught them to "blow a bubble" to learn how to raise their arms above their heads.  They were warming up for their big end of the year performance at Bowker Auditorium.  Theo was 5 years old at the time, having just finished his last year of preschool.

This photo was taken at my participation in the Amherst Art Walk at the Emily Dickinson Museum, "Art at the Homestead."  Not the most even of lighting, but a great event!

Figurative Sketch

9"x12" Oil on masonite

This is a 20 minute figurative sketch I did on a previously used board. I like the effect of the vague negative erased image in the background.

30 minute study

This started as a 30 minute study. I've since worked on it at home to bring it to a more complete finish.

Geraldo & Me

20"x16" Oil on stretched canvas

Our friend, Chris, who served in Iraq sent us a photo of himself and Geraldo a couple years ago. I immediately wanted to paint this scene because it's just so surreal, complete with Geraldo wearing rose-colored glasses. Our sincerest "thank you" goes out to Chris and all those brave men and women who have served in this war. Welcome home.

Red Shirt

Oil on canvas panel

I applied the "least amount of brush strokes as possible" approach to painting this figure.

Warm-Ups

I took a one-week painting class with Peggi Kroll-Roberts at the Fredericksburg Artists' School in TX at the beginning of January. I thoroughly enjoyed it and learned so much. Peggi is a wonderful teacher and I finally got the "mask your shadows" concept! We would start out with 10 minute 2-value warm-ups. I loved this exercise and plan to start every painting this way!

Chris & Larry

8"x10" Oil on masonite board
in private collection

My friend, Peter, commissioned me to paint a portrait of his sister and her husband to give to them as a wedding gift. He sent me a wonderful photograph to work from and I'm so happy with the final result. A number of people in my critique group described it as very romantic which I was very pleased to hear. All the best to the happy couple - may the honeymoon last forever!

Red Dress

14"x10" Watercolor on paper
in private collection

I painted this for a good friend's birthday. She is a beautiful, sexy girl (as all my friends) and I wanted to paint something that would capture her "esprit de corps."

My friend, Robyn, commissioned me to do this portrait of her two boys. I strove to capture their energy and vitality.
